After a game, a player from the opposing team is chosen to receive the medal. She carries it forward to her next game or moment, then passes it on to another player who makes the game better.

Each medal has a QR code. Every pass is logged with a short note, creating a shared story that connects players, teams and rinks.

The Brendon Oreto Foundation

The Brendon Oreto Foundation honours Brendon, a former Fredericton AAA hockey player whose talent and love of the game took him to Governor’s Academy on a full scholarship. He died in a car accident in December 1998 at the age of 19. The local youth hockey assistance program was renamed in his memory, carrying forward his connection to the game by helping other young players take part.

The Foundation helps families manage the cost of hockey through equipment and registration fee assistance. Its work also includes hockey schools supported by volunteer coaches and players, partnerships with local minor hockey associations, and bursaries for students beginning post-secondary education. Donations and community fundraising help make these opportunities possible.

By passing along equipment that still has life in it, families can support that mission and give another child the chance to experience hockey. Learn more about the Foundation
